The Art Lover Date Night
No experience necessary! Talented artists will guide you step-by-step through the featured painting at Painting With A Twist. They provide all the painting supplies for you to discover your inner artist. Classes are $40 for 2 hour paintings and $50 for 3 hour paintings, so there’s something for everyone! Classes include complimentary wine or beer tasting, which is subject to VA ABC laws. Non-drinkers can bring a non-alcoholic beverage of choice.
The ‘We Just Need to Escape’ Date Night
Got a little detective in you? Breakout Newport News isn’t your average Date Night. If you enjoy solving mysteries, this is the activity for you! Various rooms offer unique storylines. Strange is putting it mildly! There is a little something for everyone at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! in Williamsburg. The Odditorium has over 350 exhibits showcasing odd, rare, and mind-undoing world records, people, and animals in 11 themed galleries. Exhibits range from an 8’ tall car part robot and a 900 pound Millennium Falcon made from car parts to a two headed cow and a genuine shrunken head.
At the in-house 4-D theater, the action is complemented by the fourth dimension of interaction, in-audience effects. You can watch the shows with 3D glasses while being blasted with air, misted with water, have your legs tickled and a host of other sensory experiences.

The ‘We’re Just Happy to be out of the House’ Date Night
Looking for a great dining experience? Schlesinger’s Chop House located in Charming Port Warwick in Newport News, offers Midwestern, corn fed, aged beef and fresh seafood! The elegant yet casual decor and impeccable service has made Schlesinger’s one of the best restaurants on the Peninsula. They also have a full bar and patio dining.
The Entertainment Lover’s Date Night
Enjoy a show in a theatre named for native daughter Ella Fitzgerald. A wide variety of shows are offered throughout the year at this beautiful theater which has a capacity of over 270 spectators. It is part of The Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center.
The Nature Lover’s Date Night
Often called the “crown jewel of Virginia”, the Virginia Living Museum is a nature lover’s dream date. The museum showcases local flora and fauna and diverse species like such as bald eagles, red wolves, and sea turtles.
There is an observatory on site as well as a planetarium where you can learn all about the night sky. Other attractions include self-guided tours of the nature gardens as well as a boardwalk and a greenhouse.
