Earlier this year my husband and I were discussing what to do for spring break. Our oldest walks by and says “Parentals, can we please NOT spend spring break spring cleaning again? Please?” Our two middle kids appropriately nicknamed Pebbles and Bam Bam both chime in with “Oh dear God please no!”
They are getting their wish, and I am getting mine as well. We are headed to New York City for half of spring break and the other half we will spring clean.
Anywho, when making the decision on what we wanted to do, we knew it needed to be close, cheap and still a lot of fun. NYC has plenty of Airbnb spaces to fit any budget, even during Spring Break season. The Navy Lodge on Staten Island is only $79 a night as of this writing. And there is SO MUCH TO DO…first up for us … Coney Island! Then the Statue of Liberty, visiting some family there and a few other tidbits.
Here are some more great ideas for spring break.
Since I am all about traveling on the cheap, I love road trips. We pack one cooler with sandwich meat, bread and cheese and another with drinks and then, head out. I know a lot of people on the east coast like to go to Great Wolf Lodge. There are 5 locations within the U.S. Four are on the east coast, and they have an indoor water park, amazing family cabins and a host of fun activities.
There is also the infamous Disney vacation to consider. When we went, my entire family rented a house in Kissimmee and traveled to Disney rather than stay in the Disney hotels. For the price of one night and probably room for four, we were in a house that slept 22 and had a water park on site! SCORE! If that’s not in your view, there is also the Shades of Green Resort for the military that’s a very affordable option as well. And for tickets, check with your local ITT office on base to see the current specials.
On The Water
Cruises are another option, and while they can be pricey, they are truly one of the best bangs for your buck. For the last few years, Royal Caribbean has held the #1 spot for family cruising and all around fun, period. Your local ITT office can help book that as well.
There is also the option to go to the beach, especially if you live near one. Or you might opt for a STAYCATION! If you don’t want to stay home, you can find an inexpensive local hotel with a pool for a few days to unwind. Hit up some paintball, laser tag, museums, new restaurants, theaters, or parks to fill your time off and have fun! Most of the above are fairly cheap or sometimes even FREE! Just sayin’.
Also consider trips to resorts in the Bahamas, Jamaica and Mexico. All feature all inclusive resorts and specials to fit any budget. Sandals and Beaches (the latter for families with kids) have amazing deals this time of year.
So, tell me what are your spring break plans this year? Can you share some of your favs?
